Vanessa Carcelen has a solid successful history of 10 years working in social services, with families and children conducting home visits for a non-profit agency, WellSpace Health. The main goal was prevention of child abuse, assisting in self-sufficiency and teaching an evidenced-based parenting curriculum. She held a lead position and worked with other agencies such as; schools, County CPS, social workers and other non-profit agencies, connecting and assisting families to community supports. While working full time and going to school, Vanessa was placed in a job conversion, completed her internship for a full year working as a family advocate in the mental health department. During this time, she completed her Bachelor’s in Social Work (BSW) at California State University, Sacramento and graduated with honors. In addition, she was the Case Manager in the Interim Care Program (ICP), conducting intense case management with the homeless population creating respite care for patients that were discharging from hospital partners. Currently, Vanessa continues her passion for working with families as a Family Support Specialist with the Lighthouse Counseling and Family Resource Center.
